Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about Grantilo, education grants, text messages, and your privacy.
The basics
What is Grantilo?
Grantilo is an information website for students and families. We explain education grants, scholarships, FAFSA, and other ways to manage college costs in plain language, and let you opt in to updates by email or text. We are not a government agency, school, or lender.
Is Grantilo part of the government or the FAFSA?
No. Grantilo is a private information service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education, Federal Student Aid, FAFSA®, or any state or federal agency. The official FAFSA form is free and is available only from the federal government.
Does it cost anything?
No. Using Grantilo is free. Message and data rates from your mobile carrier may apply if you choose to receive text messages.
Can you give me a grant or scholarship, or apply for me?
No. Grantilo does not award, offer, or process grants, scholarships, or loans, and we do not submit applications for you. Awards come from schools, government programs, and other organizations, and you apply to them directly.
Grants, scholarships, and savings
Will I get a grant or scholarship?
We can't promise that. Whether you qualify depends on the organization offering it and on factors such as financial need, academics, school, field of study, and deadlines. Grantilo does not guarantee any grant, scholarship, aid, or savings.
What is the difference between a grant, a scholarship, and a loan?
Grants and scholarships are generally gift aid that you do not have to repay, while loans are borrowed money that must be repaid with interest. Work-study lets you earn wages. See the Grants guide for more.
What are common ways students lower the cost of college?
General examples include completing the FAFSA on time, searching for grants and scholarships from schools and other organizations, comparing net cost rather than sticker price, and asking a school's financial-aid office what is available. None of these is guaranteed to lower your costs.
Who sees my information?
We do not send your details to colleges, lenders, scholarship companies, or other third parties for their marketing. Our service providers, such as our email and text platforms, handle it only to run the service for us.
Signing up and text messages
What happens after I submit the form?
You'll see a confirmation and receive an email. If you chose text messages, we'll also send a welcome text. We then send the general information you asked about.
Do I have to agree to text messages?
No. The two text-message boxes on our form are optional and unchecked by default. Consent to receive texts is not a condition of purchase or of requesting information.
What kinds of texts will I get, and how often?
Informational texts (like confirmation of your request and general grant and financial-aid information) and, only if you opt in separately, promotional texts (like new guides, deadline reminders, and cost-saving tips). Message frequency varies, with up to about 8 messages a month. See the SMS Terms for examples.
How do I stop the texts?
Reply STOP to any message. You'll get one final confirmation and no more texts. Reply HELP for help, or contact us any time at [email protected].
Privacy
Do you sell my information?
No. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your mobile phone number or SMS opt-in data with third parties or affiliates for their marketing or promotional purposes. Details are in our Privacy Policy.
Will colleges or lenders contact me?
Not because of Grantilo. We do not send your details to colleges, lenders, or scholarship companies, and your Grantilo text consent applies only to Grantilo.
How do I delete my information?
Email [email protected] and tell us what you'd like removed. See the "Your privacy rights" section of the Privacy Policy for more.
